hawks

one by one
red-shouldered hawks
slip into the blue
beyond the hills. . .
this fire in my hearth

seizing
six minutes alone
I soar
with a red-tailed hawk
four hundred heartbeats high

  1. A great pairing! Love the colors and fire in the hearth of the first one and the sense of exhilaration in the second. "Four hundred heartbeats high" is a unique, effective way of describing the height you soar.

  2. Thanks, Janet! I figured that 6 minutes is about 400 heartbeats!
